چکیده

Hybrid decoding is to combine different iterative decoding algorithms with the aim of improving error performance or decoding complexity. This, e.g., can be performed by using a specific blend of different algorithms in every iteration (time-invariant hybrid: HTI), or by switching between different algorithms throughout the iteration process (switch-type hybrid: HST). In this work, we study HTI and HST algorithms both asymptotically, using densityevolution, and at finite block lengths, using simulations, and show that these algorithms perform considerably better than their constituent algorithms. We also investigate the convergence properties of HTI and HST algorithms, under both the assumption of perfect knowledge of the channel, and the lack of it, and show that compared to ‘HST algorithms, such as Gallager’s algorithm B, HTI algorithms are far less sensitive to channel conditions and thus can be practically more attractive.

Search Based Weighted Multi-Bit Flipping Algorithm for High-Performance Low-Complexity Decoding of LDPC Codes

In this paper, two new hybrid algorithms are proposed for decoding Low Density Parity Check (LDPC) codes. Original version of the proposed algorithms named Search Based Weighted Multi Bit Flipping (SWMBF). The main idea of these algorithms is flipping variable multi bits in each iteration, change in which leads to the syndrome vector with least hamming weight. To achieve this, the proposed algo...

On Low-Density Parity-Check Convolutional Codes

Abstract – In this paper a formal theory, construction methods, and a random ensemble approach for low-density parity-check convolutional codes (including turbo-codes) are presented. The principles of iterative decoding of low-density parity-check (LDPC) convolutional codes are given, and an iterative algorithm for decoding of homogeneous LDPC convolutional codes is described. Some simulation r...

A Comparison of Decoding Latency for Block and Convolutional Codes⋆

In this paper we compare the decoding latency, i.e., the delay between the time a channel symbol is received and the time it is decoded, of block and convolutional codes. In particular, we compare low density parity check (LDPC) block codes with iterative message-passing decoding to convolutional codes with Viterbi decoding and stack sequential decoding. On the basis of simulations, we show tha...
